Cookie Policy

Effective: 6 August 2026 · Last updated: 6 August 2026

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used by Yoreflix. It sits alongside our [Privacy Policy](/privacy), which describes everything else we do with your information.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and device identifiers. We use them to keep you signed in, to keep the Service secure, and — only if you allow it — to measure how the Service is used.

2. Strictly necessary — always active

These keep you signed in and the Service secure. They are set by us, are not readable by JavaScript, and are never used for advertising. Consent is not required for these, and blocking them will prevent sign-in.

All four are first-party, HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax, Path=/, and scoped to .yoreflix.com so that they work across our subdomains.

NamePurposeLifetime
yoreflix_ikInstallation identifier — recognises this browser or device1 year
yoreflix_ctCredentials token — keeps you signed in ("remember me")30 days
yoreflix_sessionSession token for the current signed-in session8 hours
yoreflix_rtRequest token — protects against request forgery and replay8 hours

3. Preferences — browser storage

Stored in your browser's local storage and never transmitted to us as cookies:

KeyPurpose
yf_ga_consentRemembers your analytics choice (granted or denied) so that we do not ask again
yf_ga_debugDiagnostic flag, used only during development

We also store playback preferences such as captions and resume position against your account.

4. Analytics — only with your consent

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Service is used. Analytics storage is denied by default and nothing is set until you choose to allow it.

NamePurposeLifetime
_gaDistinguishes browsers for visit measurement2 years
_ga_<id>Retains session state2 years

5. Advertising

We do not currently set advertising cookies, and no advertising partner sets cookies through the Service. Our paid subscription is advertising-free.

If we introduce an advertising-supported tier, we will update this policy to name the cookies and identifiers involved and their lifetimes before any advertisement is served, and — in the United Kingdom and the EEA — we will ask for your consent through a consent management platform before any advertising cookie is set.

6. Payments

Checkout is hosted by Stripe, which sets its own cookies on its own domain under its own privacy policy (https://stripe.com/gb/privacy).

7. Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies in section 2 will prevent sign-in. You can also reset or limit advertising identifiers in your device settings.
